Welcome to St. Norbert

Explore this beautiful community

St. Norbert is a vibrant bilingual community just beyond the perimeter of Winnipeg, rich in history and culture. Originally home to First Nations peoples, it was prized for its prime hunting and fishing opportunities. Bordered by the Red and La Salle Rivers, the area was once crisscrossed by a bison trail that stretched nearly 50 km to hunting grounds. The historic Pembina Trail also passed through, connecting travelers from Upper Fort Garry (now downtown Winnipeg) to the Hudson’s Bay Company’s southern outpost.

Today, St. Norbert is a thriving community of about 5,000 residents. It boasts Manitoba’s largest and most beloved farmers’ market during the summer, attracting visitors from across the city. You’ll also find landmarks like the Trappist Monastery, now transformed into an arts and cultural hub, as well as the St. Norbert Provincial Heritage Park.

Housing Types & Prices
St. Norbert offers a mix of housing options, from charming single-family detached homes to more affordable attached homes and high-rise condos. Prices range from $150,000 to over $1,000,000 for custom-built riverfront homes. Most of the houses date back to the 1970s, with many bungalows, two-storey, and split-level designs. Condos in the area are similarly varied, ranging from cozy $150,000 one-bedroom units to spacious $500,000 riverfront properties.

Schools & Services
Families in St. Norbert benefit from being part of the Seine River School Division, which offers four schools: Parc La Salle (elementary, English), La Barriere Crossing (middle school, English), École St. Norbert Immersion (K-8, French Immersion), and Collège St. Norbert Collegiate (high school). Plus, the University of Manitoba is just a short bus ride away. While there’s no major hospital in the area, Victoria General Hospital is only a quick five-minute drive north.

Shopping & Entertainment
From June through October, residents flock to the St. Norbert Farmers' Market for fresh eggs, produce, meats, baked goods, fish, and handmade crafts from more than 70 local vendors. For a wider shopping experience, St. Vital Centre is a short drive away, offering a variety of retail options.

When it comes to recreation, the St. Norbert Community Centre is the local hub, hosting hockey games, Bingo nights, socials, and the famous farmers’ market. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy the newly redesigned Southwood Golf and Country Club, with its stunning river valley views and challenging course.

Historic Charm
History buffs will love visiting the Trappist Monastery, established in 1892. Though a fire in 1983 left much of the original buildings in ruins, the site remains a testament to the area's deep roots. The guesthouse, untouched by the fire, now serves as the St. Norbert Arts Centre, blending the community’s rich history with modern creativity.

Located just 17 km from downtown Winnipeg and 21 km from the airport, St. Norbert offers a unique blend of rural charm, urban convenience, and a deep connection to its heritage.
