Development in Oakbank began in the 1960s, with much of the housing built in the 1990s or later, and new construction continues today. Springfield Collegiate Institute serves high school students in the area. French Immersion students attend École Dugald for Kindergarten to Grade 8 and then move on to College Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau in Winnipeg for Grades 9-12.
